Literature Review
Introduction
The sustainable development of houses needs a sustainable architecture with the use of environment-friendly techniques and innovative greener practices along with ideal placement of the houses or buildings. Several individuals have different ideas about greener practice of houses but may not be considered optimum. Therefore, the implementation of the house with the use of different environment-friendly techniques should be acquired with a view so that energy can be used effectively.
Principle and Elements
The consideration of sustainable building design involves many factors to value the importance of sustainable development of buildings or houses. About the study of sustainable buildings or homes, the conceptual framework of sustainable construction encompasses three main elements as social sustainability, environmental sustainability, and economic sustainability.
Social sustainability is revered as a universal approach structured to avoid injuries by built-in safety features. It provides safety components to improve the sense of security in individuals, Features also allow flexibility and comfort to the individuals with different stages and different abilities (AbdAlqadir, et al. 2018).
Environmental Sustainability refers to a decrease in greenhouse emissions, store energy, and water in the construction process and lifetime of homes.
Economic sustainability is an approach designed to save money within the construction methods and across the lifetime of the homes. Optimized planning prevents future major alterations and decreases the cost of the utilization of energy, use of water, and maintenance.
Sustainable Framework
There are many prospects in the current period in building activity that can be optimized and monitored to avoid less harmful to the environment without decreasing the output of the building performances. The literature review that is been carried out recognizes three main objectives that could structure the framework for establishing a sustainable construction and design of the building. The Framework kept in mind the principles and elements of the sustainable factors of environmental, economic, and social that were recognized previously. The objectives considered are Resource Conservation, Cost Efficiency, and the Design for human Adaptation
Resource Conservation: Conservation of resources means optimizing or attaining high with few resources. It is referred to as the management of utilizing the natural resources by the individuals attaining the highest benefit to present generations while monitoring the capacity to meet the requirements of future generations.
Cost efficiency: The construction customers need assurance for their building's long-time economic performance along with the cost. Additionally, the supply chain of concerned stakeholders such as suppliers, manufacturers, developers, construction, and design group is under coercion from the customers to reduce the total cost of the construction project. Improvisations in the cost-effectiveness of buildings generally possess the usual interest for the user, owner, and society (Sakina, 2018).
Design for Human Adaptation: One of the vital purposes of sustainable building is to procure a comfortable and healthy environment for human operations(Darwish, 2020). The house should accompany the activities built and provide light, room space, shelter, amenities for living working. IT should also protectthe individual and environmentmaking it safe and do not generate unnecessary risk in the form of energy utilization. It includes the strategy of caring for human comfort and health and saving physical resources.
Different Sustainable Architecture
Efficient Heating, Cooling, and Ventilation System
A cost-effective element and significant constituent of effective heating, air conditioning, and ventilation requires a well-organized an insulated building. To be more sustainable and coherent a building or house needs a lesser heat-producing and vanishing power but it also requires efficient ventilation amplitude to wash our polluted in-house air(Yang, et al. 2016). There should be passive solar designs for the building that allows the structure to harness the solar energy effectively irrespective of the use of certain active solar designs like solar hot water panels or photovoltaic batteries.
An optimum amount of energy is expelled out of the buildings or houses in compost, air, or water forms. On-site recycled energy technology or the shell technologies may effectively restore the energy from the waste stale air or hot water and then transferring that energy into the incoming fresh cold air or cold water. Re capturing of energy for utilizing apart from gardening through compost leaved houses need centralized anaerobic digesters.
As discussed, passive solar designs building raw materials have a greater thermal mass that stores heat efficient and strong insulation that acts to prevent the escape of heat(Albayyaa, et al. 2019). Low energy designs require the utilization of solar shading through shutter or blinds to relieve the gain of solar heat in summer and decrease the requirement of artificial cooling. Additionally, low energy buildings possess a low surface area to volume ratio to decrease heat loss.
Windows are making situated for maximizing the source of heat-generating light through minimization of heat by glass that is a poor insulator. Several types of windows like double-sized insulated windows with gas-filled allow optimum insulation when compared to single-pane windows. The avoiding of excessive solar rays through solar shading components in the summer seasons is important and helps in reducing the cooling requirements naturally.
Solar Panels
An active solar equipment’s like photovoltaic solar panels supports in providing substantial electricity for any type of usage. Electric generation of a solar panel is based on the climate, effectiveness, orientation, and latitude to get the energy from the Sun.
Geothermal Heat Pump
Geothermal energy is the heat that is acquired from deep inside the earth's surface. Geothermal energy refers to sustainable, efficient, and clean that can be utilized for many purposes. The resources of geothermal energy vary from the deep inside the earth to warm water. The hot rock can be found within the few miles inside the earth's surface to collect the energy generated. Air Sources Heat Pumps (ASHP) can be replaced as reverse air conditioning systems. In many areas that are not situated in temperateclimates, geothermal or ground source heat pumps serve as an optimum alternative. The geothermal energy utilizes the benefits of constant, underground average temperature that means their efficiency can be optimum in that area. The ground source heatpumps serve as 50% more efficient as compared to other alternatives and it can be incorporated into functions such as domestic water heating(Chiasson, 2016). About the instalment cost, the ground source heat pumps cost double as much as other source heat pumps. Nevertheless, the front cost can be offset by the decreased energy costs and that is regarded as the major perspective.
Walls
A wall is generally a powerful structure that designates and protects the areas of a building. The raw materials that are common to certain types of natural houses or buildings are composed of sand and clay. Other different types of cycled or reused raw material can be used in the construction of buildings as recycled glass tires, etc. that make houses more environmentally friendly. Many different materials are considered in the natural building as earthbag or rammed earth, timber frame or post and beam that could be in major demand in the upcoming times for sustainable house or buildings.
Adobe is revered as mud-brick utilized to store energy and is considered environmentally safe for insulating the house. These types of homes are cool in summer and warm, in winter. Adobe is s building materials encompassed of clay, sand, and water alongside organic and fibrous materials such as straw, dung, etc. framed into bricks and dried on Sun. Adobe framed structures are efficiently durable, higher thermal mass, susceptible to seismic activity as compared to other constructed buildings(Li, et al. 2020).
Cobb is a construction material thatis a mixture of sand, clay, water, straw, and earth. Cobb is revered as resistant to top seismic factors, fireproof, and is laterallyinexpensive. It is utilized to create sculptural and artistic forms andisrevived in the past few years forsustainable and natural building or house construction (Jiao, 2020). Cobb can be referred to as olden times building materials and is considered important in several climates throughout the world.
Buildings Mass
The mass of a building is generally symbolized as thermal mass in connection to the energy efficiency is revered as a capacity of the building to suck up, stockpile, and monitoring the heat internally (Dominkovi?, et al. 2018). The materials used have a greater density enabling them to consummate concerning the high mass building. This is an initiative and effective energy-efficient approach to keep the house or building cool.
Summary
The need for sustainable houses or buildings can be felt highly and very importantly in today’s polluted environment. The impact of greenhouse gases and carbon emissions has led to the generation of sustainable houses or buildings and this can prove as one of the most efficient ways to consider less impact on the environment. Different types of constructiontechniques can be implemented to procure less harmful emissions. These houses can be indigenously one of the major contributors to making a purposeful and healthy environment
