Southern Cross University is an Australian university, and its campuses are in New South Wales, southeast Queensland, Lismore, and Coffs Harbour. The National Marine Science Centre of the University is situated on the Coffs Harbour campus. EduCo collaborates with the branch campuses in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney. In addition, the institution runs the Hotel School in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne in conjunction with Mulpha Australia.
Southern Cross University collaborates with Papua New Guinea and China to award degrees. Southern Cross University was merely a Teachers College with 151 students in the 1970s, and Lismore Teachers College was its name at that time. Later, the institute was renamed the Northern Rivers College of Advanced Education in 1973. It evolved in the 1990s, eventually becoming a university with its autonomy in 1994. Professor Barry Conyngham was the first Vice-Chancellor of the University. In 1995, there were around 95 international students enrolled.

The SNR (Sustain Northern Rivers) cooperation was created in 2008 by eight Northern Rivers peak organizations. They have developed three significant projects to date: Sustain Transportation, Sustain Food and Sustain Energy. Southern Cross University received the highest grade of 'well above the international level in six research fields.' The institution offers a variety of academic and research programmes. Six schools, two colleges, and two research institutes house all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Centre for Peace and Social Justice, School of Education, Science and Engineering, School of Health and Human Sciences, School of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Law and Justice, Gnibi College of Indigenous Australian Peoples, SCU College, School of Business and Tourism, School of Environment, and National Marine Science Centre are among the University's different departments.
