Class Activity #1: Oral History and Primary Source Analysis

Objective:

Understanding how Canada’s Industrialization affected Canada, primary source analysis and oral history will be utilized. This will highlight issues experienced during Canada’s Industrialization using historical accounts.

Introduction

Oral history will be investigated using historical information passed down through generations such as personal narratives, and interviews. Written records, capture individual experiences, feelings, and differing viewpoints, that offer a different view of the historical events. It tells a story of the human experiences, revealing aspects that may not have been written on historical documents (Jaworski & Keay, 2020).

The research is important as it provides a new perspective relating to historical documentation. Telling how People felt, their experiences, and responses through history which provide a clear picture of what happened. The stories focus on elements recorded in history litratures covering customs, conventions, and individual accounts.

Distinguishing between historical accounts offers evocative and intimate viewpoints, that potray the impacted by time, memory biases, and differences in narration. Documented perspectives also have usnique points of view which also offer insight to the topic. This makes understanding these variations crucial for both written and oral sources as it helps create a clear picture of the past.

1. Contextual Understanding: Factors that led to the decisions and adjustments communities made as a reaction to the Canada’s Industrialization changes?

2. Impact Assessment: how did people or groups described in history record managed their everyday life, customs and well-being?

3. Comparative Analysis: what were the consequences of Canada’s Industrialization on Indigenous communities in Canada and how did it differ from written records or textbooks?

Analysis of historical accounts will help reveal the complex and multidimensional effects of Canada’s Industrialization on Canadian Indigenous communities. This will help to understand challenges the communities and help maintaining their traditional ways of life and cultural identities in the face of profound socioeconomic change in future (Curtis, 2023).

Homespun manufacture continued despite the onset of industrialism, especially in rural regions where poverty was widespread. However, because of industrial competition and shifting economic dynamics, it severely reduced the financial sustainability of artisanal crafts and handloom weavers.

The loading of iron ore from Bell Island onto a metal-hulled ship in 1903 is a prime example of the mining and marine industries of the day. This picture represents the movement of essential resources and Bell Island's significant contribution to the iron ore trade.
