Reflection
According to my opinion it is seen in the organizational communication assignment that group or team dynamics are quite complex and this leads to both negative and positive aspects in group processes. Group processes vary from one organisation to another and understanding each process is not a simple thing. Moreover, group dynamics do lead to positive and negative effects depending on the ways it is done that directly has an impact on the organisation (Xia, Yuan & Gay, 2009). This is because group dynamics consists of several behavioural characteristics within a group and help determine the way the group forms its processes.
Considering the positive group dynamics I think it helps in making the group more productive and efficient rather than the individual itself. This is because the group make use of strengths of each of its members and allow people to capitalise on their strengths. Thus, it is seen that a group forms dynamics or processes and structure that allow them to be more productive in their outcome. Further, I believe that a positive group dynamics is associated with effective teamwork, inclusivity and few solitary individuals. They allow for effective conflict resolution and improve resilience in a group. I would like to mention within this organizational communication assignment that I have seen that negative group dynamics create increased dysfunctionality in a group and make it difficult to accomplish anything. In negative group dynamics conflicts are large and difficult to solve, as more than one person wants to be in power. It has been evident to me that negative group dynamics arises because everyone in the group wants to be in power and there is a power struggle instead of goal focus behaviour (Dugas, 2017). Further, the readings developed in the organizational communication assignment signifies that in such group dynamics it is see that the leadership style is not compatible with group’s mission and leads to poor communication and behaviour. Further, negative group dynamics also arise when one person in the team does not take responsibilities efficiently.
Conclusion
In conclusion it is stated that informal internal communication has been one of the effective ways or instrument to conduct organisational communication as seen from the findings of different articles. Informal communication has become the consideration of modern organisational communication where active listening is encouraged and it leads to extra energy among the employees. Moreover, it is seen that there are both negative and positive group dynamics that determines the success of a team work. Negative dynamics has to be reduced to improve future success of the team in an organisation.
Recommendations
From the above analysis it is recommended that steps should be taken to reduce negative group dynamics and promote successful team processes. It is seen that negative group dynamics occur when there is conflict and less of coordination among team members and lack of motivation to put effort in meeting the goals. The two future actions that is recommended are:
- The organisations should establish more informal internal communication in a group such as open discussion that will help built social relationship and extra energy. This will help reduce the negative group dynamics of lack of interest among team members to take up responsibilities. It will help develop language of delusion and opportunism among the team members that help turn the negative dynamics into a positive one.
- The organisation should encourage participative leadership behaviour among teams so that there is less conflict among members and reduced power struggle (Akpoviroro, Kadiri&Owotutu, 2018). Participation and inclusivity will help generate more ideas with better communication and friendly environment in a team that cannot be dealt with autocratic leadership that believe in dominance.
