Self-Awareness Assignment: Ability Improvement Through Feedbacks
Question
To complete an Individual Self-Analysis Journal based on the completion of several selfanalysis tools and surveys.
Task
Based on the topics covered in Weeks 1-4, you will create an Individual Self-Analysis Journal based on the completion of two evaluative surveys and getting others to complete two evaluative surveys on you. You will then use the Johari Window Model of SelfAwareness to discuss the results.

Introduction
As discussed in the self-awareness assignment, it is necessary to evaluate or self- assess your own personal behavior, by examining personal strengths and weaknesses in order to determine key areas of improvement. The basic purpose of assessment is to improve the ability based on the differences or feedbacks received from my friend and my brother. In the self-analysis journal presented in the self-awareness assignment, I have conducted two self- assessment tests which includes- Global Leadership Foundation’s Global Emotional Intelligence Test (GEIT) and Daniel Goleman’s EQ Instrument.
Analysis through Johri Window Model of Self Awareness
Johri Window Model of self- awareness is an essential tool or psychological to evaluate your own behavior and what others think of yourself. In order to grow and develop, this tool is very useful to understand yourself and for training purposes. It is a feedback of individual’s personality traits which can be assessed in four quadrants these are- Open, Blind, Unknown and Hidden.
Things I have learned about myself are discussed in the next section of self-awareness assignment -
Open- These are those characteristics or behavior which are known to me, my friend and brother as well. With the help of Global EI test results, it has been obtained that I am very social person and socially aware about my surroundings and people around me. The result is similar in the segment of social awareness which is 10 on 10 (Appendix 1). This behavior of me will ensure good team management and team development in an organization. Further, because of good communication relationship, my self- awareness and empathetic behavior people often come to me for advices and their problems (Globalleadershipfoundation, 2020).
Blind- These are those characteristics which are not known to me but are known to the people around me. These blind spots are very critical as, it may lead to unnecessary environment where people can talk behind me. I have identified that, there may be few people who come to me for the advices but there are few others who are not comfortable in communicating with me. Further, I have scored 8 out of 15 in self- regulation which elaborates that there is a contradiction in evaluating emotion quotient (Mindtools, 2020).
Unknown- These are of no concern, as it will not create negative environment or any thread of communication around. As it is an unknown area, no one knows about it, hence it will not be a subject of any discussion. As per the results obtained in the self-awareness assignment, there are no such elements of behavior which are not known to both the parties.
Hidden- It is that part of behavior which is not known to everyone and is kept with me. To manage anger and anxiety, I do chant- Daimoku, which is not known to everyone and is hidden. If certain things are known then, it can help in creating open space for everyone which subsequently improve communication pattern in the working place (Communication Theory, 2018). It helps in building interpersonal relationships and people may find me more empathetic and emotional which is found to be in contrary as per the results.
Analysis of Strengths and Weaknesses
With the view to assess strengths and weaknesses, I have conducted two tests to self- assess my behavior/ characteristics. The basic purpose is to understand the areas of improvement while assessing all my strengths and weaknesses. Based on my survey results, it has been observed in the self-awareness assignment that I possess strengths and weaknesses as-
Strengths- As per Global EI test, I possess strengths like self- awareness and social- awareness. I have scored 10 out of 10 in social awareness and similar results were obtained in my brother’s test; 7 out of 10 in self-awareness which is similar to my friend test result. As per the result so obtained, I have identified that I possess a very good communication skills, as I can socially connect with people. Moreover, I am very much competent in three aspects that is- emotional self- awareness, self- confidence and accurate self- assessment. Further, in Daniel Goleman’s EQ Instrument, I have obtained score 63, and my brother scored 44. According to which I am emotionally intelligent person and have a great equation with all the people around me. It is one of the great strengths that I possess as, for being a good leader it is necessary to have emotional quotient. Other skills that I possess includes- Motivation, Empathy, Social Skills, and Self- regulation.
Weaknesses- After analyzing the tests result of myself, my brother and friend, it has been understood that an effective leader/ manager is the one who will analyze his/her weaknesses and take corrective actions respectively in the required area. After comparing the three results, I have observed that I lack in management skills which includes- self- management and relationship management (Appendix 2). Self- management involves various elements such as- self- control, transparency, achievement orientation, adaptability and initiative. And I am unable to resolve conflicts within the group or team which is one of the greatest weaknesses as relationship management is a must for any leader/ manager. Further, as per Daniel Goleman’s EQ Instrument, I have observed that because of my excellent emotional quotient, I might not prioritize my own requirements and needs which might create problems or hindrances in my growth and development. Therefore, self- management, self- regulation and relationship management are few weaknesses which I have observed in myself.
Which strategies mentioned in the self-awareness assignment those are required to be developed?
To achieve potential growth and development, it is necessary to attain opportunities as per the strengths and to mitigate or restricts all the weaknesses and take required actions to limit them. After analyzing personal traits and the feedbacks received from my associates, I have learned that there are many improvement areas those are required to be developed in order to become a good leader/ manager. To become a good leader/ manager, first I need to become a prospective global citizen. It can be explained as, it is important to create an environment where there is equality, fairness and sustainability which ensures in creating happy and healthy working environment (Henkel, Marion, & Bourdeau, 2019). It can be understood with the working scenario of my current organization. I am a manager in a Korean restaurant Atsui. Atsui is famous for huge variety of Korean dishes. There are mostly Korean chefs in the restaurant including all the senior chefs. My associates helped me achieving self- awareness and self- management methods. Therefore, to bring the trust and healthy working relationship, there is a requirement of maintaining good communication relationships and restoring trust in the organization by rewarding them appropriately. With the help of it, stability and fairness in an organization can be achieved. Further, they have guided me to take feedbacks, as if feedbacks are not known to me, then it will create irreversible consequences in my working place. Without proper feedbacks I will be stuck in the old normal behavior and there will be no improvement in the required area. Therefore, feedbacks are must to improve competency and to run business effectively and efficiently (Evans, et. al. 2017). Because, Atsui is established 5 years back, and all the staff are new as I have failed to retain the staffs in the restaurant.
Conclusion
It can be concluded from the overall discussion on self-awareness assignment that, I have learned that employees are the most important element of organization on whom success depends. Hence, to retain the staff, I need to develop my skills and behavior which I have assessed through self-assessment tools and Johri Window Model of self- awareness which include- personal development, inter group relationships, better communication, obtaining feedbacks and accountability. All these factors not only guide me in developing business but also ensure career growth and development in culturally diverse organization.
