Universiti Teknologi Malaysia also referred to as UTM, is an open research university located in the city of Skudai in Johor. Was first established as Treacher Technical School, the institution was soon converted into a college with the 1958-59 academic session registering a total of 320 students. The year 1972 saw UTM promoted to the ranks of a technical institute from being a technical college. Finally, the institute gained university status in 1975, and the university constitution got government approval in 1976.
UTM has three campuses, with the main one situated in Skudai. UTM became the first University of the state of Johor and began to offer courses to students from all across the nation and overseas. The main campus of Skudai spreads over an impressive 11.48 sq. km of land and is the second-largest public University in the country. The branch campuses are located in Jalan Semarak in Kuala Lumpur, which offers diplomas, part-time and undergraduate courses to overseas students in business studies. A new campus of the UTM was introduced in 2017 in Pagoh. The Research Management Centre of UTM was established in 1982, which is responsible for overseeing the research and development activities.

The University has three major faculties to provide academic facilities. These include science, engineering and technology and offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs, some of which come with specializations. The University is home to over 25,000 students, with over 5000 overseas students joining the University from over 120 different nations every year. Owing to a faculty of over 3,000 members, students are offered quality education with complete dedication.
Apart from facilities like free buses and local and international restaurants within the campuses, the University also maintains a library called Perpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah, offering several online facilities to both the students and the faculty.
