Teesside University, founded in 1930, is an open technical university affiliated with the University Alliance. The university was once known as Constantine Technical University. It was granted university status in 1992, and the University of London acknowledged its degree programmes. Metallurgy, engineering and chemistry are the university's main areas of concentration. Graham R. Dawbarn, a well-known London architect, planned and built the university's original technical building. He is well noted for his involvement in the creation of Cambridge's Corpus Christie College. Teesside University is also one of the first institutions in the UK to implement the Further and Higher Education Act. As a result, the university's enrolment has increased dramatically during the 1990s.
The Darlington campus is the university's primary and latest campus, with a total area of 15,890 square feet, and the campus provides housing for its students.
